What Makes Summer Institutes Unique?

Featured Presenter: Alex Kajitani

Spend a day with Alex Kajitani, California Teacher of the Year and Top-4 Finalist, National Teacher of the Year. Alex is also the author of the highly acclaimed book, Owning It.

A message from Alex Kajitani

In this one-day experience, Alex will show educators of all levels and subjects how they can:

  • Engage students with high-leverage strategies that have a big impact on learning, and can be implemented immediately.
  • Manage the classroom environment with confidence and creativity, so students learn in an atmosphere of positivity and safety.
  • Create a classroom culture where student thrive.
  • Interact with colleagues, and care for themselves in ways that are productive and healthy, and avoid mid-year burnout!

Seventeen years ago, Alex Kajitani was a struggling new teacher in one of California’s poorest neighborhoods. His students seemed unmotivated, unengaged and uninterested in what he was teaching. Demoralized and desperate, he set out on a journey to turn his class, and his life, around.

Today, Alex holds the title of California Teacher of the Year and Top-4 Finalist for National Teacher of the Year, 2009, and is lauded for his motivation, innovation and “real talk” on what it takes to succeed. He’s also known as “The Rappin’ Mathematician,” and his videos and approaches to connecting with kids are being used in homes and classrooms around the world.

Alex’s journey – from frustrated new teacher to being honored at The White House – is one he now shares across the country, to inspire educators to new heights and fresh ways of thinking about the jobs we do & students we serve. His message of “Owning It” resonates deeply, regardless of experience or job title.

In Owning It, Alex tells refreshingly honest stories of his experiences as an educator today, and interweaves them with proven strategies that can be implemented the very next day to make an immediate impact on students’ lives. Join Alex and teachers from around your area for a day that will inspire ALL educators to make a true difference that matters, and create the world as it can be.

Alex Kajitani (Kaw-juw-taw-nee) is the 2009 California Teacher of the Year, and a Top-4 Finalist for National Teacher of the Year.  He is the co-author of Chicken Soup for the Soul: Inspiration for Teachers, and his first book, Owning It was named “Recommended Reading” by the U.S. Department of Education. Alex is also on a mission to get every kid in America to learn their times tables, and to make this happen, he created the popular online program www.MultiplicationNation.com. Alex is a highly-sought after keynote speaker who supports and motivates teachers nationwide, and he’s known around the world as “The Rappin’ Mathematician.” Alex has a popular TED Talk, has been honored at The White House, and was featured on The CBS Evening News, where Katie Couric exclaimed, “I LOVE that guy!” For more of his innovative ideas, visit www.AlexKajitani.com.
